Module
2 -- Musical textures and gestures
- what are they / what do we mean by
these terms?
- how do / can we describe their
characteristics & properties?
why did I
choose texture and gesture?
-- because
they have become fundamental materials of 20th century music but as yet have
been scarcely examined in any rigorous fashion within the context of music
analysis* nor music perception & cognition studies
-- because
the words, though seemingly potent, and often used, are not unequivocally
defined, and are borrowed (like so many musical terms)
from other fields
-- because
they are singularities which depend on time for their manifestation -- neither
can be frozen for study
